TORRAVAL visits the Zabalgarbi recovery plant
TORRAVAL, together with the Enkarterri Group Business Association, visited the facilities of the Zabalgarbi urban waste energy recovery plant in Bilbao.
Received by the general director Mikel Huizi together with the communication director José Pérez, in order to continue visiting the plant, guided by Ildefonso Goikoetxea, director of exploitation and development, who showed us the facilities and explained in detail how it takes carry out the process of recovery of urban waste.
The plant is distributed in two different areas: in the first one there is the waste reception area, the pit, the process control room, the furnace, the gas purification equipment and the electrical production system.
In a second area of parallel location, we were also able to visit the water treatment plant, the regulation and measurement station of the natural gas supply and the electric park. This area is surrounded by the cooling towers that, together with the rest of the visitors, we saw them operating at full capacity, its 6 cells of dimensions 12.3 x 12.3 meters working perfectly. Since 2004, Zabalgarbi has being satisfied with the service that Torraval has been lending. In this same area, a second energy recovery plant for urban waste is projected.
“The results of the plant meet the objective of zero discharge, contributing that part of the production of the electricity generation consumed in the area comes from renewable energy sources.”
The Zabalgarbi plant currently serves more than 100 municipalities that means more than one million people.
