The fill supports in the cooling tower are an item to check.
The cooling tower is mechanical equipment with simple operation.
However, high temperatures, the time and the lack of minimum periodic maintenance degrade its interior.
The tower fill blocks rest on supports placed longitudinally from one side of the tower to the other. This fill assembly is the core of a cooling tower as it is the surface on which the heat exchange between water and air occurs, resulting in the evaporation of part of the water and therefore its cooling.
As with the rest of the tower components, these fill supports can degrade and weaken. The weight of the blocks they support, together with the pressure by the pulverized process water on the fill, weakens them even more so they can bend, split, or even collapse, and so the entire internal structure of the cooling tower.
The supports are essential for the inside of the tower to remain intact and fulfil its cooling function in this water-air exchange.
Just as important as the regular replacement of the filler is the supervision and maintenance of the support, to ensure that it is stable and safe and or, if weakened, to proceed to its renovation or revamping
