Energy efficiency, new opportunities
The newspaper Cinco Días, in collaboration with Acciona, has organized the virtual event Energy Efficiency, an Economic Opportunity.
The speakers highlighted the importance of having a very specific legislation, promoting public-private collaboration in projects and developing investment towards the achievement of new objectives at national and European level in energy efficiency.
Elena González, director of energy services at Acciona, underlined how important is taking steps on the way to decarbonization through technologies, business models, professionals and financing.
Pedro Antonio Prieto, director of energy saving and efficiency of the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), stated that “there is sufficiently mature technology to reduce consumption, in a profitable way, and there are specialized companies and energy services to recover the investment with savings ”.
Marta Castro, partner of economics & regulation at KPMG Spain, pointed out that “there is a battery of measures that yield energy savings of about 40% by 2030, and only considering technological change; We are not even accounting for possible changes in consumer behavior, half the potential of these measures could be achieved at an efficient cost ”.
González affirms that “We must begin to demand that the entire supply chain follow sustainability parameters because that way the offers will be sustainable.”
Prieto points out that the plans with objectives for decades have made it possible to put order to measures such as sustainable mobility or the improvement of consumption of buildings and equipment, whose ultimate goal is “a complete transformation of the energy system.”
In addition to regulation, the crisis caused by Covid-19 has reinforced in the European Union the commitment to redouble public investment in sectors that are considered strategic for the coming decades and for the economic recovery from this crisis, including that of the Energy.
