From Torraval, an industrial cooling solution is being implemented for a European leader in sustainable biofuels. The project, with a total capacity of 7,922 kW, has been developed in two strategic phases. The PME 6204 E CW cooling tower operates with a flow rate of 443 m³/h and a temperature difference from 38.5°C to 30.5°C, standing out for its energy efficiency and adaptability—key aspects for competitiveness and sustainability in the renewable energy sector. A future expansion of our solution is planned.
THE CLIENT
Our client produces fuels from raw materials and vegetable waste from other production processes. It is a benchmark in sustainable biofuels with high valorization potential in the EU.
THE COOLING REQUIREMENT
The client contacted us for the construction of a new plant requiring an additional 7,922 kW of cooling. In the first phase, the demand will be 4,084 kW, leaving space for expansion in phase 2.
THE COOLING SOLUTION
A cooling tower has been evaluated for a power of 4,084 kW and a flow rate of 443 m³/h, with a temperature difference of 38.5º/30.5ºC and a wet bulb temperature of 24ºC. Considering that the water is clean and will not exceed 50ºC, the PME 6204 E CW tower has been selected.
However, a future expansion of 3,837 kW is planned. To achieve this, the same tower could be used, although it would be slightly oversized, or a smaller model could be chosen. If the same tower model is used, they could be placed side by side along their long sides to save space and share the basins. However, this would need to be determined before manufacturing the first phase, as it requires a higher air inlet height and some additional modifications. The total water accumulation capacity with both towers would be 10 m³.
If installed separately, a minimum distance of 2.4 m must be maintained between them.
As optional features, 2 removable walls per tower (each approximately 2100 x 1760 mm) with a “patented system” are supplied to facilitate and simplify maintenance of the tower’s internal components (located on both short sides).
